Awakening [Unintentional Video/Action] - 01

[The morning had a dullness to it, a sort of dreariness that just seemed to make time go slowly. Even nature seemed to be having a hard time getting started today. The clearing in the forest was still and quiet, except for the stirrings of an old man who was slowly coming back into consciousness. He has a long beard, and a far receded hair line. Despite his age, he is well muscled individual. As his eyes slowly open he stretches a bit and winces. There is a moment or two as he gazes around his surroundings, taking everything in and sizing it up.]

This is certainly a strange place to wake up. I don't recall drinking any wine yesterday.

[He strokes his beard thoughtfully for a moment. He gives another wince and stretches his back a little. It is clear something strange has happened. It is then he turns his head for a second, and then startled turns it again]

Wings?! Since when do I have wings?!

[He shakes his head a second, and gives his cheek a pinch. It would seem he wasn't sleeping. When he had journeyed to the spirit world before he had maintained his shape, though that was the closest approximation he could make]

Mmmmm. I could use a cup of tea, and perhaps a bit of breakfast. Although I suppose that would be a bit much to ask.

[His gaze goes to the book which had a strange look to it, curiously he moved forward and taps it and... the feed cuts out]

[Being forgotten was something no one enjoyed. He notices the shift, and feels a bit guilty.]

No worries, Ami. It will be an honor to get to know you again. Although I'm afraid the pleasure will be all mine, as you might have to listen to some of my old ramblings.

[He gives a grin at that]

I will make it up by brewing the finest tea you have ever had the pleasure to taste!

I'd like to enjoy tea and pai sho with you again sometime. [This, at least, she can say wholly truthfully and whole-heartedly.]

Pai sho and tea sounds absolutely delightful. I am glad this world is civilized enough to have pai sho.

[Pai Sho and tea are about all he needs in the material part of things, though musical instruments are quite nice as well]

Actually, the one who taught me pai sho was you. I enjoy it very much, though. [Which is all true, it's just also true that she thinks Iroh would appreciate the offer of a match.] I played a similar game of strategy back home, Chess.

Ah, so you are saying I might have some competition?

[He was joking, partially. If she learned from him, she might have gained a certain level of skill. It would be interesting to see how good she was. It was a bit strange to be known more intimately by someone who you had just met. Still others knowing him before he knew their names wasn't that unusual. Such was the case of being a famous general and former crown prince]

Chess is it? I will have to try that out as well.

I'll try to play well enough for an interesting match.

[This is modesty. She is a chess prodigy and national champion, and had taken to pai sho very well. Still, she's not likely to beat her own teacher at it, especially when she's out of practice.]

I am sure it will be.

[It was nice to see someone who wanted to play the game. Some of this was probably to help him be more comfortable, and he appreciated it]

You seem a Ginseng tea type, am I right?

I like ginseng very much. [Green tea, actually, is a preference, but it'd be very rude to correct her elder. Besides, 'I like ginseng' is still perfectly true anyway.] I can help you to find some at the store if you'd like.

It is hard to dislike.

[She didn't say her favorite. He strokes his beard thoughtfully a moment]

At this point in life I'm pretty sure I can identify by smell, haha!

It has a very distinctive scent. [Walk by a traditional medicine shop sometime. So much ginseng.] I think I might know it that way, too.

Yes, my nephew has said similar things about me.

[He laughs with fondness in his tone]

[Someone really shouldn't make a rude remark about their own uncle like that, but it's not Ami's place to criticize, either. Instead, she tries steering the conversation somewhere else.]

I think they sell some ginseng at the stores, so I'll be sure to let you know if I see it there.

More importantly, though, if you've just come back here, and you don't remember it, you must have a lot of questions.

[He pauses for a moment]

I do have a few questions, but I was told about a guide which should help to illuminate some of the basic answers.

That's right. It was designed to help newcomers, so it has a lot of information. Some of your comrades from your home are also here, and they'll be able to help you as well. [She's had friendly dealings with the avatar and some of his friends from various timelines and eras, so this is a safe bet.]

I shall have to peruse it after I settle in for a bit. I think getting a shirt would be a good start. Its not exactly proper to be out and about like this.

[He gives his head a bit of a sheepish rub]

[Well, the new feather robes do at least cover everything that needs to be covered, but now that attention has been drawn to them, Ami's cheeks color a little.]

Ah, very good. I think a nice bath might also be good.

[A nice hot bath would be about perfect right now]

It is a nice way to pass the time I have found.

[Basically he just loves hot water in all its forms]

[Well, that's definitely something she can't offer to get for him or... anything, in fact, so Ami is quick to make her excuses and say something of a goodbye to allow Iroh to do that in privacy.]
