[Iroh is cleaning up the shop, it was rather quiet today, and a clean shop was important. It said to people, this is a place which cares about its appearance. Not to mention dustiness could ruin tea as surely as a poor brewer.]

Yes, I am over here Zuko. If you aren't too busy, help me straighten up these tables a moment.

[Without complaint, Zuko walks over and starts helping Iroh clean things up. He's rather familiar with this sort of thing after all, and certainly doesn't mind helping.

He's quiet as he does so, trying to think of how he wants to ask the questions he has on his mind.]

[Iroh watches Zuko a little as they clean. It seemed his nephew had something on his mind. He knew that concentrated look. It was best to give him a little time to speak. When the time was right, Zuko would say what he was thinking. In the meantime Iroh finishes making the shop in the order he liked.]

[Something on his mind indeed. He'd already talked to a few of his friends about this, but his Uncle's opinion was what mattered most to him.

Finally, he finds the words.]

Uncle... what do you think of Katara?

[He pauses and then elaborates.]

And I mean the Katara that's lived here in Luceti for five years.

Well she is different from the one I am accustomed to at the very least.

[He strokes his beard]

I am glad she pursued her interest in medicine more. It seems a good step for her.

[Zuko continues to tidy up as he listens to his uncle's opinion, purposely not looking at him.]

Yeah, I think so too.

[Iroh pauses for a moment and straightens out some napkins]

Though perhaps her career choice is not what you are interested in, hmmm?

[lordhotman]

[He knew that Iroh would probably pick up on what he was trying to get to, but that was faster than he expected.]

No, not exactly. ... I mean, she's a great healer, but... there's a lot more to her than just that.

[Iroh gives Zuko an expectant look]

Do tell.

[lordhotman]

[Zuko pauses... now feeling put on the spot.]

Uh... Well.

She's smart, and pretty, and... I don't know... more grown up?

She's strong too. Did you know she can fight with a bo staff?

[tea_lover64]

[Iroh nods along]

I had not heard she can fight with a bo staff. Not something that comes up often in casual conversation.

[lordhotman]

[Zuko now finally turns around, looking as if he just had an epiphany.]

She's amazing! And she's... fun.

[As much as he had loved Mai... that was one of the things that was missing from their relationship.]

Fun is always nice.

[He had a feeling where this was going]

[lordhotman]

[Iroh knows. And Zuko knows he knows. And Iroh probably knows that Zuko knows that he knows.

So the young man just flops down into a chair with a sigh.]

Uncle, what should I do?

[tea_lover64]

[Iroh sits himself down across from Zuko]

I would say nothing for the time being.

[lordhotman]

[Zuko looks up, a little surprised. That's not what he had expected.]

Nothing?

[tea_lover64]

[Iroh nods and takes a breath]

Not forever, understand. Matters of the heart need to be balanced with the mind as well.

[lordhotman]

[A blink.]

What do you mean? How?

[tea_lover64]

The heart can be a fickle thing. I wonder if your feelings aren't connected simply to loneliness and unfamiliarity with others.

[lordhotman]

[Zuko frowns, looking confused.]

Why would you say that? You're the one that's been insisting I meet girls. I thought you would be pleased!

[Frustrated sigh.]

[Iroh pauses for a moment]

Yes, girls. As in take some time to go out with a few different ones.

[lordhotman]

[Zuko's frown deepens even more.]

Why? Weren't you listening, Uncle? I like Katara. What's wrong with her?

[tea_lover64]

[Iroh holds his hands up]

There is nothing wrong with her, but she is one of the few girls from our world here that you actually know. The worse that can happen if you go out with a few different people is you get to expand some friendships. If after that you still feel strongly about her, than I would seek Aang's blessing first.

[lordhotman]

[He's about to keep arguing with Iroh but the last sentence brings pause.]

Aang's blessing?

I will entitle this thread "Iroh teaching Zuko the Bro code"

Take into consideration how Aang might feel about this. Back in our time they are together, and he is aware they eventually have children and grandchildren. Even if they aren't together now, there is still a lot of history between the two of them.

Love can cause great rifts between friends.
