Awakening [Unintentional Video/Action] - 01

[The morning had a dullness to it, a sort of dreariness that just seemed to make time go slowly. Even nature seemed to be having a hard time getting started today. The clearing in the forest was still and quiet, except for the stirrings of an old man who was slowly coming back into consciousness. He has a long beard, and a far receded hair line. Despite his age, he is well muscled individual. As his eyes slowly open he stretches a bit and winces. There is a moment or two as he gazes around his surroundings, taking everything in and sizing it up.]

This is certainly a strange place to wake up. I don't recall drinking any wine yesterday.

[He strokes his beard thoughtfully for a moment. He gives another wince and stretches his back a little. It is clear something strange has happened. It is then he turns his head for a second, and then startled turns it again]

Wings?! Since when do I have wings?!

[He shakes his head a second, and gives his cheek a pinch. It would seem he wasn't sleeping. When he had journeyed to the spirit world before he had maintained his shape, though that was the closest approximation he could make]

Mmmmm. I could use a cup of tea, and perhaps a bit of breakfast. Although I suppose that would be a bit much to ask.

[His gaze goes to the book which had a strange look to it, curiously he moved forward and taps it and... the feed cuts out]

Mmmmmm, has it been relatively uneventful for you?

[He will look through the menu himself, roast duck was delicious]

Roast duck would be very nice right now.

I don't know if that's really the word I'd use... Events have certainly happened.

[Some weird ones, at that.]

They happen all the time.

They did? What sorts of things can I expect? Or at least have happened in the past?

[Having a vague idea was better than being caught completely unprepared]

Just about anything. ...Okay, that's really broad, but they can alter your memories, the setting, anything. It's usually temporary, but not long ago I thought I lived on the streets in a big city with no one but a dog as my companion.

[He'd prefer not to mention the most recent event for him at all.]

That is hard to prepare for.

[If anything could be changed, even your memories, you couldn't really mentally prepare for that sort of thing]

I think if they allowed you to prepare for it, their experiments wouldn't be as successful. At least that's what I hear them called sometimes.

[Doesn't make them sound any better.]

Oh hey, duck soup.

Is there any rhyme or reason to the experiments? From what I have heard, they seem to lack purpose often enough.

[He'll glance at the item]

Duck soup is passable, but not ideal.

They're not going to tell us what they are if they have any.

[He sets the menu aside.] Maybe you can request something specific?

That is poor leadership.

[He strokes his beard a moment] Perhaps that might be best.

That depends on who's perspective you look at it from, I think. Who knows what's going on with them.

[Zuko looks around for a waiter, finally catching the attention of one.]

Action (because I happen to play someone who works here so why not)

[Possibly because he'd been eavesdropping. Boring workday and all that.]

If you want a whole duck, it'll take a while.

[He doesn't even wait for them to ask.]

What is it you need?

Ah, perhaps a starter of some soup followed by the duck later on? If it is not too much to ask.

[Getting food was the more immediate concern, afterwards he'll turn back to Zuko to finish his point]

The way a government treats its weakest members, is an indication of its true nature.

If you can even consider it a government.

We're more like... lab rats.

[Food is at least a good way to keep his mind on better things, if he can keep his appetite, so he nods along with his uncle's request.

The waiter sighs and marks a couple unnecessary things on a notepad before heading off to the kitchen.]

Even worse. I suppose that is why everyone comes together so well.

It is a necessity.

[The food would be a welcome change in pace]

[Zuko nods.]

At least there's that. It would be so much worse if everyone here was divided among themselves.

Have you seen some of the enemy cultists I have heard a little about?

[Unfortunately, Zuko can only shake his head at that.]

Not enough to be worth commenting on. I haven't been chosen for any of the drafts yet.

[Iroh nods in understanding]

That is probably for the best.

[Less chance of his favorite nephew being killed]

I guess. It also means I don't know a lot of what's going on behind the scenes.

[And that sort of thing is important for the leader of a nation, right?]

I'm sure there are other people who have more information about it.

[Delegating is also important]

Yeah... I should ask some of them if I'm concerned, huh?

At least that would get me somewhere.

That would generally be the first step, yes.

[Iroh will pause for a moment, because there is something very wrong ]

So is beginning with tea not a usual thing here?

[How appalling. He'd completely forgotten to ask!]

I'll call the waiter back over.

Ah, very good.

[Priorities Zuko, you got to have them]

[Zuko flags down the same waiter, who is able to retrieve tea for them in a relatively short amount of time.]

Sorry about that, Uncle.
