Awakening [Unintentional Video/Action] - 01

[The morning had a dullness to it, a sort of dreariness that just seemed to make time go slowly. Even nature seemed to be having a hard time getting started today. The clearing in the forest was still and quiet, except for the stirrings of an old man who was slowly coming back into consciousness. He has a long beard, and a far receded hair line. Despite his age, he is well muscled individual. As his eyes slowly open he stretches a bit and winces. There is a moment or two as he gazes around his surroundings, taking everything in and sizing it up.]

This is certainly a strange place to wake up. I don't recall drinking any wine yesterday.

[He strokes his beard thoughtfully for a moment. He gives another wince and stretches his back a little. It is clear something strange has happened. It is then he turns his head for a second, and then startled turns it again]

Wings?! Since when do I have wings?!

[He shakes his head a second, and gives his cheek a pinch. It would seem he wasn't sleeping. When he had journeyed to the spirit world before he had maintained his shape, though that was the closest approximation he could make]

Mmmmm. I could use a cup of tea, and perhaps a bit of breakfast. Although I suppose that would be a bit much to ask.

[His gaze goes to the book which had a strange look to it, curiously he moved forward and taps it and... the feed cuts out]

[Aang does love to pull pranks every now and then, but this certainly isn't the type he'd go for. It is almost odd how familiar Iroh seems to be with the Spirit World, but Aang doesn't pay that much mind.]

Yep. Things are really weird here. Once you arrive in this world, you get wings that don't fly, and books that everyone can talk into. Are you alright?

[The old man certainly sounds calm, but Aang wants to make sure that there aren't any problems wherever he arrived.]

[Taking things as they come is a skill Iroh has developed over some time]

Personally I'd prefer a cup of tea and a nice meal.

[He makes a bit of a face as he moves around]

Nothing broken, but rather stiff and sore.

[He pauses in thought for a moment]

I didn't talk to you that long ago, how long have you been here?

[Aang's voice probably sounds the same, but he does look a bit older. It's easier to tell in person from how much taller he is. Having lived a year after the war at home and then spending over a year here in Luceti, the monk is now around 15.]

Sorry, this might not be easy to hear, but... it's been over a year and a half since I got stuck here.

[He puts on a light smile.]

But the good news is... if we get you to the village? We can get you a meal and some tea for free.

[Iroh blinked at that. It was pretty much a few days ago that Aang was a few years younger. He has a hearty laugh at it though]

Ah, its not a problem Aang. When you get older its amazing how fast younger people seem to grow up, faster than a squirrel-frogs tongue.

[He returns the smile]

That sounds absolutely delightful. Do you have any Ginseng tea?

Heheh... I guess that's true! It's still worrying to have to spend a lot of that time stuck in - in this place.

Iiii don't think we have Ginseng in particular. But there is a tea place in town that I'm sure we'll have some! It's right on the second floor of the Welcome Center, so it's a good place to get started.

Understandable. Well, as well as I can comprehend at the moment.

[There was a great deal to take in all at once]

That is fine, perhaps some Jasmine tea? I shall have to see this place myself regardless. Better to go three days without food, then one day without tea.

[Truly the wisdom of the elders]

[He chuckles.]

Well, we'll make sure you get your fill. We might have some Jasmine. I'll just have to check cuz I'm not sure if it was finished yet. But do you need help getting to the village?

I appreciate that. Jasmine tea is usually gone all too soon.

[Its fortunate tea is good for you otherwise Iroh would have sweeping health problems]

I think I should be able to manage, thank you.

I just hope I can prepare it right if I find it! I'm not nearly as good as you with tea.

It is an art. It takes awhile to master any art, even for the Avatar.

[There is a nod]

[A thought occurs to him though]

How is your firebending coming along?

My firebending? Great! It's been a long time now since I started learning about it. I think it's getting pretty flaming, if I do say so myself! But I don't think I'm still anywhere near as good as Zuko - or you!

[He wasn't sure he had heard anyone refer to their firebending progress as flaming, but Aang came from an older time than him strange as it was]

That is good to hear. I'd like to see how you are doing personally some time if you'd indulge me.

[He hadn't seen Aang firebending before, and it would be a welcome distraction]

[He nods quickly.]

I'd be honored to, Iroh. I'm sure I can give you a demonstration once you've settled in around here.

By the way... What's the last thing you remember from home?

[It sounds like a safe bet that he's not from the 'hunting the Avatar' days, at least.]

Very good.

[He'll pause in thought for a moment]

Well Zuko had given his speech to the assembled people after the defeat of Azula and Ozai, and we were having a quiet gathering at the Jasmine Dragon.

Oh! I remember that time. [That's around the same time that Sokka was from, and that Suki used to be. At least that's one more person who's seen the war's end - as Katara, Zuko and Toph have not.]

That was a great time. [There's just a slight flush in his cheeks at the memory. Thinking of the time at the Jasmine Dragon, it's the moment with Katara that comes to mind first. But he tries not to dwell on it.] I'm actually from the future. I only got sucked into this place a year after the war had ended.

[If he notices the flush, he doesn't say anything about it]

I see, that is quite a strange thing to wrap one's head around. It will take a little time to get accustomed to some of the nuances of this place.

It will. When I first got here, I thought my headache would never end. Because everyone was from the past but they were older, too...

But... It'll get easier as time goes on to understand these things.

As long as none of you have become older than me, I don't think it will be as big a shock for me.

[Time went by faster as you got older]

Well, you won't have to worry about that one! I think. There are some people here who are from the future... but they're all people who haven't been born yet in our time.

Although I suppose technically I would be your junior.

[This whole future and past thing was really confusing]

Well, I am sure they will be lovely to meet.

[He chuckles a little like that.]

I guess you kind of are! Then you're a smart kid, Iroh!

But they are very nice! I know you'll like them. One of them's the next Avatar, and another is my granddaughter. The other two are their friends!

Ah, thank you kindly, sir.

[He pauses for a moment. Two Avatars in one place? That had to be a bit awkward for Aang.]

The next Avatar? A member of the water tribe. Always interesting to meet an Avatar.

[Having your own grandchild would be a bit strange too, especially considering how old Aang was]

Well, it certainly seems there is quite the group of people from our world here.

[It certainly comes with an awkwardness - meeting his next life already, who is already a full-grown girl. And a bit depressing, since her very existence is a living reminder of his own mortality. But it's been a long time since he's first met Korra, so some of that has been coped with to an extent. So he's able to reply casually.]

Yep! She's Water Tribe alright. She's just away on a mission right now, but I can introduce you some other time.

But there really is! A bunch of people from our world did go back home a bunch of months ago, but then more kept coming back! [Iroh himself had been here once before during Aang's stay, but Aang took it as a given that this Iroh did not remember that.] Most of my friends from home are all here.

Yes, I would like that. Who knew I would meet two Avatars in my life?

So returning to prospective worlds is a possibility, but more of a random chance than anything organized.

[He'll have to ponder that for a time. What was up with this place?]

Ah, is my nephew Zuko here?

If you'd met Roku, too, you'd be up to three!

That's right. No one's been able to find a way to get home yet. Instead, it just happens as randomly as people coming here to begin with. And once you're back home... you forget this place, and it's like this never happened.

Zuko is here, though! I bet he'll be glad to hear from you.
