Awakening [Unintentional Video/Action] - 01

[The morning had a dullness to it, a sort of dreariness that just seemed to make time go slowly. Even nature seemed to be having a hard time getting started today. The clearing in the forest was still and quiet, except for the stirrings of an old man who was slowly coming back into consciousness. He has a long beard, and a far receded hair line. Despite his age, he is well muscled individual. As his eyes slowly open he stretches a bit and winces. There is a moment or two as he gazes around his surroundings, taking everything in and sizing it up.]

This is certainly a strange place to wake up. I don't recall drinking any wine yesterday.

[He strokes his beard thoughtfully for a moment. He gives another wince and stretches his back a little. It is clear something strange has happened. It is then he turns his head for a second, and then startled turns it again]

Wings?! Since when do I have wings?!

[He shakes his head a second, and gives his cheek a pinch. It would seem he wasn't sleeping. When he had journeyed to the spirit world before he had maintained his shape, though that was the closest approximation he could make]

Mmmmm. I could use a cup of tea, and perhaps a bit of breakfast. Although I suppose that would be a bit much to ask.

[His gaze goes to the book which had a strange look to it, curiously he moved forward and taps it and... the feed cuts out]

Is there any rhyme or reason to the experiments? From what I have heard, they seem to lack purpose often enough.

[He'll glance at the item]

Duck soup is passable, but not ideal.

[He sets the menu aside.] Maybe you can request something specific?

This place can get difficult though, so even with the right attitude, it can be hard.

Quite. I imagine most people here would be content to leave them alone if they ceased their attacks, but they've caused a great deal of trouble. Most recently, someone working alongside them named Zompano used his powers to interfere with people's memories and suppress their knowledge of having any superhuman abilities or combat training.

[Even with her ability to maintain emotional distance, part of her is still affected. They may be fake memories, but she has fake memories of an entire life here. Of being married, of being an art teacher, and having a large extended family.]

[He strokes his beard a moment] Perhaps that might be best.

Life will always have its difficulties I believe. Only from experiencing that can we truly appreciate the time when life seems wonderful and easy.

That depends on who's perspective you look at it from, I think. Who knows what's going on with them.

[Zuko looks around for a waiter, finally catching the attention of one.]

Ah, perhaps a starter of some soup followed by the duck later on? If it is not too much to ask.

[Getting food was the more immediate concern, afterwards he'll turn back to Zuko to finish his point]

The way a government treats its weakest members, is an indication of its true nature.

Yeah, I can completely agree with that. [Going through a lot of difficulties here.] Though it's a shame the experiments can't be our only difficulties.

Fortunately, his grip over people lasted less than two weeks, but it was unsettling.

[A little interesting to see what core personality traits people retained even with a completely different life, but mostly unsettling.]

He was defeated in the end.

[And it's served as a reminder to better guard herself against genjutsu, even if that power went well beyond what genjutsu can do. Even the Uchiha clan's genjutsu.]

[Food is at least a good way to keep his mind on better things, if he can keep his appetite, so he nods along with his uncle's request.

The waiter sighs and marks a couple unnecessary things on a notepad before heading off to the kitchen.]

Even worse. I suppose that is why everyone comes together so well.

It is a necessity.

So I have heard. At least the community seems relatively tight knit.

That is quite a significant amount of time. It is bizarre how time works here.

Anything involving the manipulation of the mind is rather disturbing.

[Especially some of the things uncovered in Ba Sing Se, but that wasn't a power, per say, more of a conditioning]

I am glad he was defeated. How did that happen?

I'm glad to hear it. Having friends and allies seems especially important given the circumstances.

At least there's that. It would be so much worse if everyone here was divided among themselves.

You'll find a lot of nice people here. My friend who runs the tea shop, and whom I live with, has helped me through a lot, and I didn't even know her at first.
